What is Nextel BACKUP? |

The Nextel BACKUP application copies the information in your phonebook from your phone and stores it on the Nextel BACKUP server. You can copy your phonebook as often as you need, and retrieve it as often as you need. That's a lot easier than re-entering 500 names and phone numbers, isn't it? |

If you have run Nextel BACKUP in the past, the problem may be that your carrier is having temporary difficulties. In that case, try again later. If you have never run Nextel BACKUP successfully, contact Customer Support for assistance in troubleshooting. |

Is the data transmission encrypted between Nextel BACKUP and my phone? |

 |
Yes. Your phonebook data is important and treated accordingly. Protection takes two forms: encryption of data between the cellular phone to and from the Nextel BACKUP server, and protection of the Tarsin (Europe) Limited server from intrusion. For an extra amount of security, each encrypted message transaction between the user and Nextel BACKUP uses its own data encryption key, and the keys are never transmitted over the air. |

Can I use the data from another cellular phone? |

Yes, in two ways.- If you're moving to a new phone, you'll want to use the data that came originally from your old phone. If the old phone and new phone both have the same phone number, start the Nextel BACKUP application on your new phone, and restore your personal data in seconds. You will need to enter your PIN Code.
- If your new phone and your old phone do not have the same number, you´ll need the phone number and PIN Code from the old phone´s account and you´ll set up a new account — phone number and PIN Code — for the new phone (see How to start a new Nextel BACKUP account). When you set up your new account, you can start off by using the information from the old account, then immediately back up your information to your new account. You cannot keep using an old account associated with a phone number that does not belong to your phone.

I switched phones and when I try to run Nextel BACKUP, I get a message that says you cannot automatically switch my account from my current phone to my new phone. |

Contact Customer Support at the number listed on that message. Some phones have incompatibilities with other phone models. Customer Support has a process that allows you to switch between those phones. |

I have the same phone, but a new number. How do I transfer my Nextel BACKUP account? |

- Run Nextel BACKUP.
- From the main splash screen, select the 'Menu' button.
- From this menu select 'Clear Settings'.
- Input your original PIN Code to clear the settings on the phone.
- When this is complete it should go back to the splash screen.
- Select 'Start'.
- Select 'Use Other Account'; be sure to move the dot to ‘Use Other Account’ by highlighting the selection and pressing the center movement key.
- Put your old number in the phone number block and your PIN Code in the PIN Code block.
- You will be given an option to 'Copy' or 'Rename' existing account.
- Select 'Rename'.
- Then continue to setup the account on the phone with the new renamed account.

Important note on creating a new account or connecting to an existing Nextel Backup account with a new SIM card in an iDen phone: |

When a new SIM card is placed into an iDen phone, no phone number appears in Line 1 of the My Info menu. The phone number is filled in once the first call is received; if this does not happen, please contact the Customer Care Center. Nextel Backup will not setup or connect to an existing account until the new SIM card has received a call and Line 1 is filled in. |

I forgot my PIN Code and can't log in to the website. |

On the website just below the login boxes is a link that reads, 'Forgot your PIN Code?' Click that link, enter your phone number and email address, and we will send an email to that address containing a Support Code. You must use the same email address that you created in your Profile on the website. If you've never logged in to the website and you forgot your PIN Code, contact Customer Support. Whether going through the website or Customer Support, follow these steps:- Check your email for a message sent from support@tarsin.com.
- Select the Nextel BACKUP application on your phone and press START.
- The phone will prompt you to enter a Support Code and your new PIN Code. Please enter the Support Code that was provided by Nextel BACKUP Customer Support via email or phone. Your new PIN Code can be 4-15 digits.
After following these steps, you will have successfully reset your PIN Code. |

Why would I want to clear the settings on my Nextel BACKUP application? |
 |
 |
Once the settings are cleared, you will be prompted to create a new account, use an existing account, copy or rename another account the next time you backup. This is a necessary step when you replace the SIM chip in the phone or when you get a new phone number. If you use the same phone and change your phone number, you should clear settings, and then copy or rename your account. To clear the settings of Nextel BACKUP application:- Launch Nextel BACKUP.
- Select the menu key from the splash screen of the Nextel BACKUP application.
- Select the Clear Settings option.
- Enter PIN Code.

How do I start a new Nextel BACKUP account? |

You can find the Nextel BACKUP application in the Aplic. Java menu from your handset. Before you start you will need to think on a PIN Code that has between 4-15 digits (must be a number) that you can easily remember. Keep this code safe as you will need it to access your account. Does Nextel BACKUP work with both Macintosh and Windows? |

The Nextel BACKUP website works with Mac, Windows, Linux, UNIX, or any other operating system that provides a modern web browser. We suggest that you work with the most current web browser you can. Nextel BACKUP does not currently work with the browsers found on PDAs and phones. |

Can I see and manage my data on the Nextel BACKUP website? |

You can see, add to, modify, or delete your personal information at http://www.nextel-backup.com. You must log in using your phone number and PIN Code. After you have made any changes to your data on the website, run the Nextel BACKUP application on your cellular phone to make sure your changes appear on the phone. |

Do I need to use the website to back up my data? |

No. You can use the Nextel BACKUP application from your cellular phone without ever going to the Nextel BACKUP website (other than to download the application if it did not come with your phone). Think of the website as a tool that makes it easier to work with your personal information — the contacts, names, email addresses, and phone numbers — on your phone. |

The "Export" function of the phonebook does not support some special characters. |
 |

When accessing your phonebook from our website, there is an "Export" link that exports all phonebook data from the website into a spreadsheet. If you find that some characters are not displayed correctly on the spreadsheet, it is because some spreadsheets do not display characters encoded in UTF-8 format. You can try the following steps when using Microsoft Excel:- Open Contacts.csv using NotePad and "Save...", choose "ANSI" encoding instead of "UTF-8", and then reopen the file in Excel.
- Or, follow these steps.
- Import the file as external data.
- Open Excel and create a new blank file.
- Go to "Data" -> "Import External Data" -> "Import Data"
- Choose "Contacts.csv" and click "Open".
- Continue to the "Text Import Wizard":
- Step 1: Make sure "File Origin" is "Unicode UTF-8".
- Step 2: For Delimiters select "Other" and put a "," (comma) in the empty text file next to it, and then click "Finish".
